My experience in Tokyo is that a lot of my friends (who live and work there) are grinding monday to friday. Friday they're too tired from work. Sunday night they don't want to go drinking. Saturday, yeah they will go see friends but.. they only have 1.5 days every week to do everything they want. Going to a mall? Going shopping? Running chores? That's eating up into the time. And they have to allocate that time to everyone they know. Realistically you can see your friends once a month, more than that is a bit selfish since you're taking up too much of their time. The rare exception is if your friends are NEETS, then you can hangout more. Oh yeah, remember how they basically only have Saturday and some of Sunday to hangout? Every fucking place is super busy. You NEED to arrive early. Going to a chain restaurant? plan to wait an hour. I love Tokyo because of the transit network, but man is it hard if you're not retired. My goal is to retire there and make friends with a bunch of indie hackers and families of diplomats.
