I’m surprised to report that I’m more than impressed. Okay let’s address the obvious… I wasn’t thinking too deeply when I picked this location, but this is basically in a red light district. Lots of western downtown Tokyo is basically a red light district. So it felt a bit shameful to drag my suitcase on the sidewalk passing by escorts and guys out for a night out, especially since it was a Saturday night.
The size is fine. I guess it’s like 10m2? I could see myself living here to be honest, although it’s still more economical to rent a serviced apartment for a month long stay, but if you book early enough you could book an APA hotel room for lower than 4,000 yen/night for 30 days.
The room is surprisingly high tech. One problem cheaper hotels in SEA have is that well they are dirty and the furniture is cheap. This shows that the size of the room doesn’t matter, it’s what you put in it. Charging spots are everywhere and so are USB ports. There is Ethernet access which is great if you’re a nomad using a VPN router.
The bed has a panel to control all the lights in the room and there is a dimmer switch for your bed side lamp. I was more than impressed as everything was modern.
Everything was clean and the room had an en-suite bathroom and shower (this is necessary to point out because some cheaper rooms in Tokyo only have communal bathrooms).
My flight from Haneda was at 15:30 and checkout time was at 10, so I paid extra to stay until 1pm. 1000 yen per hour. I woke up barely before 1pm and started packing. Overall I would actually stay here again. There’s two train stations within walking distance and it’s not hilly here. There’s a coco ichibanya by one of the stations and Koyama is just a few stops away (Koyama is one of my favorite neighborhoods).
I paid 14,000 yen for Saturday night and 8,000 yen for the other 2 nights.
